I love seeing before and after images of organizing and decorating projects. There is something in the revitalization of space that brings me joy. It’s even better than buying something new, this process of refreshing the old. I can remember the times that I would organize my room as a child and I wouldn’t want to take out anything afterwards because I didn’t want to disturb the space.
This is still something I need to watch for as a professional organizer, that I don’t let the process of organizing distract me from the purpose of organizing. The end goal is not perfection, the end goal is for the client to be able to enjoy life and not be ruled by their posessions. The true purpose in organizing is knowing what you have, where you have it, and why you have it. I just need a reminder that organizing isn’t the main goal.
“The trouble with organizing a thing is that pretty soon folks get to paying more attention to the organization than to what they’re organized for” – Laura Ingalls Wilder
Would love to hear about your organizing projects! And what is your ultimate goal in organizing that space?
